Interview with BBC Radio London | Parental Alienation: When a Child Pulls Away

On Tuesday 7th July 2026, I made my debut on BBC Radio London, joining Shay Kaur Grewal as a family and relationship expert to discuss parental alienation and the emotional impact that family estrangement can have on parents, children and the wider family.

Whilst every family’s circumstances are unique, our conversation explored the importance of approaching these situations with curiosity rather than assumptions, recognising that there’s often much more happening beneath the surface than we can see.

🔍 Some of the points we discussed included:

  • Why parental alienation can feel like a bereavement for parents, whilst also being confusing and painful for children.
  • The many complex reasons why distance can develop within families, including separation, changing family dynamics, evolving values, unresolved hurt and mental health challenges.
  • Why curiosity, compassionate communication and creating emotionally safe conversations are more powerful than blame or accusation.
  • Why healing doesn’t always mean reconciliation, and how preparing for both possibilities can support emotional wellbeing.
