ADOPT AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE. IT’S THE WAY OF LIFE!
Count your blessings and say the magic words:
Thank You!
When you think about the things you’re grateful for, you’re counting your blessings. Having an attitude of gratitude is one of the most powerful practices you can do. It can transform and bring about abundance in all things in your life!
Whilst you might not be content or have fulfillment in some aspects of your life, such as your relationships with others, health, finances, career etc, how often do you sit back and recognise your blessings? How often do you feel grateful for the things you have?
Are you falling into the trap of unintentionally counting negative things, such as the things you don’t have? Are you criticising or finding fault with other people, moaning about traffic, waiting in queues, delays, not enough money, or the weather?
Well get this, when you count negative things they increase too! And to add to this, with every negative thing you count, you cancel out blessings that were on their way to you.
Ouch… there’s just no need to harm your life like this!
Getting into the ‘Gratitude mindset’ daily even when it may feel like there isn’t much to celebrate in life, will help you attract more positive things into your life.
The feeling of gratitude is like a breath of fresh air you can literally feel in your body. It’s a positive sensation you can actually notice if you pay attention. It can boost your immune system, lower your stress levels and enhance the natural beauty of who you are.
It’s a simple formula… When you’re grateful for the things you have, no matter how small they may seem to you, you will see those things increase right away.
If you’re grateful for a relationship, even though there may be some downs and irritations, you will see it get better. Having gratitude for the money you have, however little, you will see your money grow. By being thankful for the job that you have and it may not be your perfect job, things will begin to change so your job becomes more enjoyable and all kinds of opportunities for your work or career will appear like magic.
It sounds woo woo, I know, but trust me on this one.
Since I adopted the ‘attitude of gratitude’, I have seen major successes in my life and relationships with others, even when I was struggling with overwhelm and self-doubt. Because I was reminding myself to be grateful for the things I had daily, I started to attract more of what I wanted into my life. And you can do the same!
Create a ‘Gratitude Journal’
Your awareness of your blessings will generate goodness in your life. There are many techniques to help keep you in a thankful, positive state of mind. One of these is creating a ‘Gratitude Journal.’
One of the most robust, enduring findings from psychological studies of increasing people’s happiness has been that happiness can be found from journaling. This is especially found when you keep a regular journal of what you’re grateful for.
Make a promise to yourself to write down a number of new things / blessings you are grateful for each day, no matter how small it may seem to you.
You might think it could be difficult to find things you’re grateful for every day, but the more you think about it, the more you will see how much you have to be grateful for. If you can set yourself a minimum number of things to write, that’s super. It’s important to be flexible too, as you may find there are days when you have less and that’s perfectly okay. I would not want you to take the joy away by being too regimented. Feel your appreciation through what you write, believe it and notice your awareness of the gift of life grow.
Take a close look at your life; you have received and are continuing to receive so much each and every day. What are you now noticing that you never paid much attention to before?
- To be alive, the fresh air, the feeling of the hot water in the shower?
- Your family and friends, a smile from a passer-by?
- Your health, your body, your five senses, your intuition, your character?
- The material things in your life like your house, your bed, your clothes, your food?
- Your great dancing skills, singing abilities (although others may debate this!)?
- Your experiences such as a great holiday, a party, a good day at work, a safe journey, a surprise event?
Whilst writing what you are grateful for, also state why you are grateful for it. Furthermore, state how it makes you feel. When you think about the reason why you’re grateful for a particular thing, person, or situation, you will feel gratitude more deeply. That’s where the magic happens.
Diamond Clarity Alert! This journal is about being grateful for you… not about being grateful for something that is better than what other people have. It’s also not about focusing on your have-nots. Any comparisons should be against what you would miss if it were gone.
After you’ve finished making your list every day, go back and read each one, either in your mind or if you can, out loud. The thing about saying it out loud is that there is a stronger vibrational pull when words are expressed verbally. Then, when you get to the end of each thing you are grateful for, say thank you. Feel the gratitude for that blessing as much as you possibly can.
Have fun keeping your journal and appreciating whatever shows up for you in life and your relationships with others! There is really so much to be thankful for!
